Under 30 | Under £5 Greek Doner Kebab – Inspired by @mezemike Serves 4 | Ready in under 30 minutes The recipe comes well under £5 after only using 1/4 cucumber & onions but pricing is easier and more transparent this way, if you can grab a fresh lemon for around 30p extra, if takes it to a whole new level. Ingredients – Greek Spiced Doner Meat: 500 g pork mince – £2.25 1 onion – blended finely (95p for 3) 1 tbsp olive oil ½ tbsp garlic granules ½ tsp salt ½ tsp black pepper ½ tbsp paprika ½ tbsp dried oregano ½ tsp cinnamon 2 tbsp Greek or natural yoghurt 2 tbsp tomato purée Flatbreads: 120 g plain flour (1 cup) 2 tbsp olive oil 1 tsp flaky salt 120g natural yoghurt (1/2 cup) Roasted Veg: 1 red pepper – £0.67 1 onion – cut into wedges Oil, pinch salt and pepper Tzatziki: 200 ml natural yoghurt – £0.55 Juice of ½ lemon (or a tsp cider vinegar) 1 tbsp olive oil ¼ cucumber – seeds removed & finely diced – £0.89 15–20 fresh mint leaves OR 1 tsp dried mint Salt to taste Total shop: £5.31 Method – 1️⃣ Prep the Doner Meat: Add the pork mince to a bowl. Blend the onion until very finely chopped or pulped. Add to the mince along with all remaining doner ingredients. Mix really well until smooth and well combined. 2️⃣ Shape & Bake: Lay out two sheets of baking paper. Spread the meat very thinly into a rectangle. Roll up tightly like a sausage using the paper. Bake at 180°C (fan) for 30 minutes. 3️⃣ Roast the Veg: Cut the red pepper into sixths. Cut the onion into 6 wedges. Add to a tray, drizzle with oil, season. Roast alongside the doner for 25–30 minutes. 4️⃣ Flatbreads: Mix flour, yoghurt, olive oil, and salt into a dough. Knead briefly until smooth. Divide into 4 balls. Roll out thin and dry-fry in a hot pan 1–2 mins per side until cooked. 5️⃣ Finish the Doner: Unwrap the doner from baking paper. Place back on the tray, unrolled. Return to the oven to keep warm — edges will crisp slightly (delicious). 6️⃣ Tzatziki: Mix yoghurt, lemon juice, olive oil, cucumber, mint, and salt. Chill if time allows. 7️⃣ Serve: Fill warm flatbreads with crispy doner meat. Add roasted peppers & onions. Drizzle generously with tzatziki. Much Love, Jade x
